I didn’t want another line on my CV. I wanted change.
For 25 years, my career was rooted in academia: research, publishing, mentoring.
But I reached a turning point. I didn’t just want to publish findings and move on. I wanted to see them make a real impact.
Take wearables, for example. Some devices don’t work as well for people with darker skin tones. That isn’t just a data point, it’s a real issue that affects health.
Working with companies to improve these algorithms means making technology more equitable and accurate for everyone.
For me, it’s about impact over accolades. Using data science to improve lives, reduce bias, and ensure innovations truly work for the people who rely on them.
Academia gave me a strong foundation. Entrepreneurship gives me freedom, independence, and the chance to make a broader difference.
It’s not just a career shift. It’s a shift in purpose.
