Credibility. Value. Authenticity.
Overusing these words has diluted their meaning on LinkedIn.
People now confuse authenticity with oversharing, value with generic AI tips, and professionalism with pretence.
There’s a personal you and a professional you, and often, the personal naturally shapes the professional. On LinkedIn, what works best is professional content influenced by personal perspective. That’s when authenticity truly connects.
Let’s explore how to do this right and avoid falling into the authenticity paradox.
How to Have Good Boundaries
If you already have a message and a personal story that naturally amplifies it, use it.
If you have a message but are scrambling to find a personal story, skip it.
Forcing an idea into a story makes it sound staged, not authentic. Good boundaries mean your story fits the message, not the other way around. That’s how you stay credible and real at the same time.

Why This Matters
We’re living in an age of instant scrutiny. One poorly framed post can undo years of goodwill overnight.
Your views, values, and opinions are always under the spotlight. They shape how relatable and credible you appear.
As an executive, you walk a fine line between being followed and being cancelled.
Boundaries on LinkedIn aren’t about being guarded. They’re about protecting the credibility you’ve built while staying real and relatable.

Intent Over Exposure
Build clear content pillars — a few themes your content consistently circles back to.
Once those are set, your intent stays focused.
Before posting, pause and ask:
• Which pillar does this connect to?
• Why am I sharing this?
• What outcome am I aiming for?
If it sparks conversation → you’re building connections.
If it inspires → you’re building thought leadership.
If it draws someone to your business → you’re generating leads.
If the honest answer is “just venting,” leave it in drafts.

Clear intent makes it easier to decide how much to reveal while staying authentic. It keeps your content consistent, credible, and effective.
