#075 - Not Ready to Post Yet? Here’s How to Start Showing Up on LinkedIn
Yes, you need to be posting relevant content consistently on LinkedIn to achieve your goals—be it thought leadership, lead generation, or just networking.
But some people find it hard to start. They open LinkedIn, stare at the ‘post’ button, and go blank. They feel like they are shouting into a void—or into a place they don’t belong.
This makes it hard to stay on the platform. They begin to hate it or, worse, leave it altogether.
Let’s look at certain LinkedIn features you can explore if you don’t want to start with posting:
1. Optimise Your Profile
An optimised profile tells people exactly what you do, who you are, and what you’re using LinkedIn for.
• Choose a professional profile picture and banner.
• Write your headline clearly to avoid confusing your ICPs.

• Write a clear, engaging About section that highlights your unique value.
• Add concise, relevant descriptions under each role in your Experience section.

• Use the Featured section as your digital billboard—showcase your value and make it easy for your ICPs to reach out.
Remember, these are the impressions that will count.
2. Stand Out with Personalised Requests
• Identify the people you’d like to connect with.
• These could be:
- Your ICP
- Industry peers
- Favourite creators
• Send them a personalised request that genuinely mentions why you want to connect. Keep it honest, relevant, and respectful.

Personalised messages that feel real (not robotic or pushy) are more likely to be accepted and remembered.
Remember, you're building your audience for your future posts.
3. Start Conversations in DMs
• If you can’t fully express your thoughts in a comment on a post you liked, or if you want to continue the conversation beyond the comment, LinkedIn gives you a great option: direct messaging.
• Start a conversation in the DMs. Talk about what caught your attention or bring up a topic you both relate to.

Remember, people are here for professional reasons, and most are open to meaningful conversations.
4. Attend LinkedIn Events

• Take part in events relevant to your industry. Attending an event becomes your reason to connect with (like-minded) attendees—no cold DM needed.
• Use the event comment section like your practice zone—engage, share, get noticed.
• After the event, send thoughtful DMs to speakers or attendees. It’s an easy way to build real connections.
• Show up to the right events consistently, and people start associating you with that space.
Remember, engage now so your name feels familiar before you even start posting.
5. Own the Comments Section
• Don't comment just for the sake of it. When you've built a network intentionally, you'll naturally find posts that inspire you—or even better, ones that need your perspective.
• Add value when you share your thoughts. If you disagree, express it respectfully and clearly. This kind of engagement brings the right audience back to your profile.

Remember, each of your comments is a mini-post that you can come back to later and expand into a full post.
These foundational strategies are often overlooked—but they can make all the difference. They help you build a relevant network, ease into the platform, and create the right environment for content to land well when you're ready to post.
Start with intent. Show up with clarity.
The content can follow.
